Gateway goes Voodoo !

biz.yahoo.com

''Gateway is excited to be one of the first OEMs to offer Voodoo2 technology as an option on its multimedia desktop PCs,'' said Bart Brown, vice president of marketing for Gateway. ''The vibrant and intense 3-D graphics of Voodoo2 technology further enhances Gateway's role as a leader in providing cutting-edge technology. Voodoo2 technology is clearly one of the best 3-D gaming technologies available today, which is why we chose to offer it to our clients on our G-Series and Destination(R) multimedia systems.''

''Gateway is putting the power of the ultimate in 3-D gaming machines into the hands of consumers by combining its industry-leading PCs with the 3Dfx Interactive 3-D entertainment platform and 3-D graphics technology,'' said Greg Ballard, president and chief executive officer of 3Dfx Interactive. ''Gateway clients get the vast array of games developed for the 3Dfx platform, as well as the technology for the richest 3-D gaming experience. Gateway obviously has a firm vision for what customers both need and want.''

This is Round Two for Gateway, the trial last month must have been successful.

No cardmaker mentioned so, is it possible that TDFX is selling V2 chipsets DIRECTLY to Gateway ?

PR BooBoo ! This story isn't linked to TDFX !

Somewhat reassuring that 3dfx held its value despite NASDAQ tumbling down. Perhaps the sellers have stopped. I'm accumulating given the poor reviews of 3dfx competitors. It looks like the main ones to worry about are NEC's PVRSG. The Unreal comments on 3D accelerators made me feel warm and fuzzy again about 3dfx. Now we just need some OEM news for Banshee. 3D Labs' misfortunes will hopefully throw a wrench in their efforts to ramp up R&D to compete with 3dfx. Time to let the pretenders fall by the wayside.
