Jane,

I probably am a little nuts and didn't mean to jump you. But folks like you and I that have an inkling of the problem don't do any good by circulating the more sensationalistic stories, and this sounded like one of them.

Let me give you an example:

Telling people "Y2k will cause planes to fall out of the sky" is exiting shocking etc. but it's not well grounded in reality. This type of remark is what fuels the y2k naysayers who point out the ludicrous statements which hurts the credibility of the very people who are working at informing the average American about this problem.

Now saying that Y2k could prevent planes from taking off is more accurate and much more credible IMHO because once the public uproar becomes great enough, the FAA will make DARN sure that any "questinable systems" are not used until they are proved to be compliant.

I guess it's all in the delivery of the message and a tape jam sounds to me to be purely mechanical and not date related.

I'm sorry if I offended you, that wasn't my intent and I apologise.
Guess I'm in a bad mood because of my TAVA stock.

regards,
gary
