John, Ted might have been referring to the introductions and news that precede the interviews, which are scripted and read from TelePromTer. I'm based in our West Coast bureau, so I'm not privy to exactly how they do things in Ft. Lee, but I suspect the producers working on each show may give the anchors some suggested questions to bolster their own knowledge and research. I do know the ad libs and banter between the anchors are not scripted (if they were, those guys would be losing out on lucrative careers as actors!)

I've worked for two other networks, though, and have never seen a smarter, more prepared group of on-air folks anywhere. I'm as much a fan of theirs as some of you are.

And the other benefit to reporting for this network is the intellectual level of the audience. You never hear any consultants around CNBC spouting that drivel about talking to viewers on an eighth-grade level (which they do at other news outlets). Believe me; they don't take your brains for granted. Which means fortunately or unfortunately, sometimes (often?) you know more about an issue than we do.
