Not only is it days until the 10K filing, but July 31 is also the end of 1Q 1999.

Cross-referencing news releases shows they've announced three licensees for this First Quarter...which means they're on target for Carley's expected 12 licensees by calendar year-end.

Still, Alan said they've been on the "one-yard line" with 1-2 more. Wonder what's happened?

Toma has discussed Softec sales with me. He's hearing that the sales process is straightforward.

A potential licensee comes in; Softec gives them general literature, then answers a myriad of their questions - usually regarding legality, technical issues, offshore tax issues.

The real log-jam, he explains, seems to be happening in two places:

1. When the licensee's lawyers have to review the agreement. The lawyers take a self-taught crash course in Internet, computer, gambling and offshore law. It's a brand-new industry...they don't know where to begin. At God-knows-how-much an hour, they don't care ;0)

2. When the licensee finally signs, they start fussing with Softec's design department over the "look" of their software.

Toma says the design/production department may soon double in size. They'd better...he also told me the Softec sales team just doubled again.

And if I were a law student right now - it would be a no-brainer. Whoever says "environmental law is HOT right now" is missing the Titanic. It's Cyberlaw, baby!

My frustrated thoughts for the day. 107 degrees down here...with thunderstorms.
