API Says U.S. Crude Oil Inventories Increased 6.862 Mln Bbls

Washington, July 21 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. crude oil inventories increased by 6.862 million barrels to 341.5 million barrels in the week ended July 17, the American Petroleum Institute said in its latest weekly report.

The latest API figures show U.S. crude oil inventories are 22.88 million barrels up compared with the same period a year ago.

U.S. gasoline inventories declined by 1.286 million barrels to 220.2 million barrels week on week, and were up 22.354 million barrels compared with the same time a year ago.

Distillate stocks, which include heating oil and diesel fuel, were up 4.432 million barrels at 139.7 million barrels compared with the previous week. Against the previous year, distillate inventories increased by 19.6 million barrels, the API said.

Residual fuel oil inventories stood at 38.6 million barrels week ended July 17, down 1.245 million barrels from the previous week. Residual fuel oil inventories were 37.3 million barrels the previous year.

Weekly imports of crude oil to the U.S. decreased by 0.6 million barrels a day to 8.8 million b/d. Last year the U.S. imported 8.1 million b/d of foreign crude.

U.S. refineries operated at 100.3% of capacity, compared with 100.2% during the previous week, and 96.7% at the same time a year ago.

Total U.S. refinery capacity stood at 15.8 million b/d for the week ended July 17, unchanged from the previous week. Operable capacity was 15.6 million barrels the previous year.
