I just installed Windows 98 and Plus! 98 on my computer. My friend was showing me how you can select a 3D hardware accelerated graphics card to enhance the 3D screen savers. Now that he left I've spent the last 15 minutes on my computer and can't find the damn control panel with the radial button for this option. (I hate MSFT) Anyway, in my frustration I was reminded how this thread has hinted at integrated 3D on your desktop, how all programs, Office included, would require a 3D card in the future. I starting thinking. What if someone were to go the extra step and do a Plus 98 desktop theme totally based on 3Dfx? It could really make some news! Instead of opening a folder that folder could pop off the screen like the text does on a 3Dfx Quake CTF startup screen. I'm not asking for 3D Spreadsheets, just a few tweaks to utilize the 3D card. If Microsoft can get away with selling Plus 98 for $80 we *have* to be able to give this type program away. I saw a Windows 98 demo video a few months ago and the demonstrator whizzed over the fact that they had a Voodoo card installed and it really helped with game graphics. Imagine if you picked up Office 99 and it said "Enhanced for 3Dfx." Schwing!!! ;-) Now, I'll admit, if it doesn't have to do with Quake, SI or email I don't really care to mess with my computer. So, if for some reason this couldn't work on a Voodoo card due to the mix of 2D and 3D then 3Dfx should get some programmers cracking to ship this app with the Banshee. Now when you start Windows you would see the startup screen and also see the 3Dfx spinning logo. Shipping this with the Banshee would grab MSFT, DELL and everyone by the throat and say, INSTALL ME NOW! Feed my worthy shareholders from your deep coffers. I may be dreaming, but imagine what kind of ruckus this would cause if 3Dfx could get this ball bouncing. Please ignore the 800lb gorilla named Bill sitting in the corner eating a shiny Apple and crapping out drunken Navigators while beating an Oracle to death, this could work and would blow the Street and us away. I would *love* to see this as a download avaialbe on 3Dfx's website. At the very least let's get a GLQuake screen saver going. Just some simple screenshots would be good. While we're at it, let's get YHOO and the search engines 3D enhanced for the Banshee. Hell, I'll chip in for that. Can't cost that much right? ;-) On a related note, I believe 3Dfx said a few months ago that their website took advantage of their technology. I can't see what their talking about. Regardless, considering the 'net stocks performance reissue that PR release ASAP. It couldn't hurt. ;-)
