Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., who got the ratings and v-chip provisions into a 1996 telecommunications law, is keeping an eye on the situation, but aides doubt Congress would intervene.

I'm sure broadcasters will allow the blocking of commercials, GIVE ME A BREAK. Aides doubt Congress will intervene, MORE BAD NEWS FOR TVL.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lennox,

In my mind, it is these kind of comments that argue in favor of having a flexible system that allows for updating and changes as peoples desires change, not a system that is "hard coded" and cannot be changed without swapping hardware. The broadcasters don't want to do any of this, so they'll be fighting any additional functionality for the consumer tooth and nail. However, if there is enough demand by the consumer, considerable pressure can be brought to bear by the manufacturers and regulators.

I think the chances are less than 50/50 that the system currently approved remains static for more than two years.

Lennox, great snipit.

With the battle between SoundView and PG and the "involuntary" encoding
by the networks (hehe), it looks like the consumer will be just shaking
their heads at this technology.

Sort of like the first attempt at introducing high definition television.

Acri should have some downward pressure during this. Time to start shorting
it again.
