I think you're misreading their message. They're not saying that you can't use their ISP to connect to a server, they're saying that you can't provide a server using your home account. The idea of a home account is that you use it for your private internet access. Providing a server (such as the one provided for the use of MB Trading customers) requires a business account.

I believe they meant that you could not operate your own server under their unlimited use contract. This does not apply when you are connected to someone else's server - and you are always connected to someone else's server when you are on the web.

I also use Earthlink and receive those messages about once a quarter. So far, they've done nothing more than send me messages. Some ISPs actually have a limit (expressed as maximum GB received) embedded in their 'appropriate use' policy. Earthlink isn't there ... yet.

FWIW, Earthlink uses UUNet. When I signed up w/MB, I also opened up a Prodigy account to have another provider via a different backbone per a strong suggestion from Steve Demerest (sp?). Prodigy uses Sprint's backbone. Confusing, no? Sprintlink doesn't use the Sprint backbone rather they resell Earthlink/UUNet.
