EDO to SDRAM

SDRAM offers several advantages over EDO. The number one reason being that it is easier to design around (because it is synchronous.) SDRAM also offers the advantage that a well designed memory controller can pipeline accesses to different banks, thereby reducing latency in some situations.

The core dram is identical in EDO and SDRAM, but the surrounding control logic is what adds value to SDRAM.
