Also today, the State of Pennsylvania announced that it was on target for a completion of its Y2K effort by the end of this month, with over 98% of systems already back on-line with changes in place.

CA state customer Y2K spending as one reason for slowdown (not embedded chip related, but general Y2K)

08:35 ET Market Indication: U.S. equities indicated flat to slightly lower...Computer Associates (CA) trading 14 pts lower on Instinet after warning of slowdown...

"The company also said that its customers may defer spending on its software as they address problems related to the year 2000 computer bug. The glitch is expected to cause computer systems to malfunction when they read the year 2000, prompting companies to spend more on software to remedy the problem."

Computer Associates is the third-biggest independent software maker behind Microsoft Corp. and Oracle Corp.

Dorine, all I can say on this is that IBM has indicated that there are problems with the FAA's systems, and IBM designed and programmed the systems . . .
