You are juggling with two theories here.

Broken off drill bit in the sample
VS
Scam

It is clear that you do not believe in the latest results from the Spear but seeing you jump from one theory to the other clearly shows that you do not have any REAL proof supporting your skepticism.

Could 6, 8 and 10 carat "artificial diamonds" come off the drill without anyone noticing it... I think not!

Any links found between the "Diamond smuggler" and The Spear? I think not!

By the way EC, what about that incredible 137.14 kg sample taken in 1996, also a salt job or broken drill bits?

core they are from a bulk sample.

I wonder if you think the appraisers in

Antwerp were qualified or not?
