As a long term stock holder, if repurchases defend IBM's stock price better than a high dividend, I'll take the repurchases. Further, if the Company were ever to be forced to reduce stock repurchases, it'd probably have a smaller effect on stock price than reducing the dividend.

Of course, if the Company were ever forced to reduce repurchases/and or dividends, I'm gone.

RSD.. off topic for those with a gambling instinct, please comment.

Sunbeam, which chainsaw Dunlap sliced and diced along with his own foot, has such bad press going into earnings that I'm thinking it might be a good contrary play. Earnings might be the best way for new managment to draw a line on pessimism. Anyone familiar with, or who wants to do some quick research, let me know.
