ATLANTA, July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientific-Atlanta's just-printed executive briefing, The Interactive Digital Network:
More Than Just A Set-Top Decision, reveals key elements of cable's interactive digital networks and advanced digital
set-tops. Focusing on the big picture, the paper describes how new IP-based, packet-data digital networks serve as the
''intelligence'' behind a range of digital applications over a cable system, such as email, Web browsing, video-on-demand,
E-commerce, and IP telephony.

''Developments today in digital network design will have a profound impact on cable's role in the convergence of services on
the TV,'' said Steve Necessary, vice president of marketing. ''This paper explains how cable networks have evolved into high
bandwidth, interconnected networks able to support voice, video and data in ways never imagined before.''

Key topics presented in this paper include:

-- An interactive digital cable network must meet six requirements to
accommodate tomorrow's digital applications.
-- How Internet Protocol (IP) has changed the face of the cable network.
-- Advanced, two-way digital set-tops are the "client" computers of a
client-server-based cable network. What are the attributes of an
advanced digital set-top?
-- A look at the cable industry's goldmine: high bandwidth and the
reverse path.
-- Making sure the cable system is secure for E-commerce.

That's fine but with this type of action the stock will stay down here and never rebound. If the company keeps beating estimates by 20% every quarter there is no justification in this action if you want to get shareholder equity up. It is a very poor idea going forward.

They are not buying back stocks though. The price of corporate bond is different than stocks. The yield has been set when the bond was issued. On the secondary market, the price does fluctuate a bit, but not as dramatic as that of stock. I think CUBE is cutting the interest expense with cash (they have a lot), that trickles down to earning per share.

Just my $0.02
