David,
Good article. As Randy said, US infrastructure complex & foreign
countries will see more rapid deployment than US. Conavi Bank in
SA example. Due to the lack of infrastructure in telecom services enter use of the chip card. Cost of operating checking account in S. America 30-40$ month. Cost of processing check per check 1.35......whoa... Cost benefit goes to the bottom line. Identix announced Conavi about 18 months ago? We should be due for something out of South America.
Also look at javacard platform processing benchmark at Sunw
announcements Mon. IMHO it is a significant smartcard developement as the preferred platform of smartcards. The internet & smartcards is the future of e commerce and security is a problem, it is a ticking time bomb. Mastercard suvery of 509 interviewed, 71% felt fingerprinting scans increase security.
Now dont we feel secure with those little hologram detterents?
Not easily copied, unless you have them means for the equipment, then
easily copied. Holograms are the security deterent on the card.
American Bank Note is major producer of holograms worldwide big business. In 91 revenues where at 90 million as of 1997 revenues
had reach 612MIllion. Holograms arent going away, I rather like them
they are very collectible when possible. I would venture to say
that biometrics will replace the hologram. Biometrics will be much bigger than holographics. American Bank Note enjoys being the market leader in their business..
Hmnn .... so does Identix... kathy

Hey David,

What a nice surprise.

I come home for a bite of lunch expecting IDX to be following the market into the toilet....only to see good volume and some creeping up in price. I wonder how that could be?

Could little IDX be showing some strength?......
