RE: try surfing the net with a $1200 box with any adequate speed. those buying the $1200 box now to use the net will soon upgrade.

I hate to burst your bubble, But unless you are using a PC with a BX100 board in it, your machine or the equivilant most likely could be bought new for $1200 or less.
I saw a P II 266 for $999, No it was not a Celurlong or an AMD.

Now My PPro 200 runs 2 spread sheets, with about 7MB of files each,
My quote service, about 16 apps in all, and E-mail and this browser all at one time, 96MB of mem helps.
All of this over one 26,400 connection, about 40% compression according to the NT Dialup window.
Now I paid $2,400 for the machine about 16 months ago. I think I can get a DELL, 266 equaly configured for 1775, or a GTW 300 for 1637.
Not $1200, but also faster processors than My cluncky old 200.
I have no performance problems.

My point Darrel is that these $1200 machines are extremely capable for even the most demanding user. X spaceship designers.

Jim

Darrell,
For someone that is price conscious, explain why the following machine, at $900 bucks, including a V.90 modem and a 300mhz CPU, is not adequate for surfing the web....
