The wording doesn't preclude Li Poly and it would seem wise to avoid premature association with the technology due to the type of problem that ULBI had with the HP/Mitsubishi laptop where the batteries were late and or problematical. Iridium is one of MOT's killer applications that they really need to succeed. Let's hope that it is Poly and that VLNC is somehow involved. MOT will be supplying batteries to Micron Electronics and we still don't know if VLNC has any part in this deal such as supplying films or cells to a finisher.

TMoore: I queried MOT about their new V-series cellphone since I'm personally/professionally interested in its potential. Here's their response:
-------

Regarding your inquiry, Motorola anticipates the release of the V3620 (Vader) in the third quarter of 1998. The V3620 will feature a Built-In Message Center, VibraCall Alert, VoiceNote Answering Machine/Voice Recorder, Dual battery Capability and the Smart button for easy programming. No additional information is available at this time. Please watch our website for updates.

The V3620 will feature the Voice Note recorder, which offers 3 distinctive capabilities with 4 minutes total record time:

-built in answering machine
-memo record function
-call record function

Motorola's Lithium-Ion batteries are high energy density batteries which offer greater capacity and are much lighter in weight than similar sized Nickel Cadium and Nickel Metal hydride batteries. The Li-Ion battery is also an Expert Performance (EP) battery, meaning that the battery contains the intelligence to communicate with EP chargers which helps achieve minimum recharge time, maximum capacity and maximum life. Recharging a Li-Ion battery in a non EP charger may not fully recharge the battery.

Clearly someone has a sense of humor at MOT, ie. V = Vader(maybe as in Darth?). Tis a good thing, too, what with MOT's current stock valuation being what it is, as well as Nokia's product line eating their lunch right now, not to mention IRIDF's difficulties. So it goes.

Regards!

John~
