Novartis will be a big presence in San Diego some day. We're getting to be quite a biotech center. The paper says Novartis will have a staff of about 200 at this new facility (just down the street from the Scripps Research Institute).

On Aug. 4 I will be visiting the UCSD Medical School again to tour their arthritis research labs. I hope to get an update on the Novartis work going on there.

I was at the UCSD Medical School today and I have a little more info on the Novartis trials for their arthritis vaccine. Phase I trials are over and the vaccine proved to be very safe. Phase II trials will start soon with 40 people. (There were only 18 in Phase I.)
