True.. I will not dispute that, however the size of the network that LCI owned does not compare to AT&T, WorldCom/MCI, Sprint or even the network that MFS used to have before they were picked up by WorldCom. Now that they have merged, They have all the peices of the puzzle except for having LEC control which is the baby bell world. They have absolutely the best quality network backbone of any carrier out there.
Many other carriers have leased line from Qwest and are trying to copy the same basic network infrastructure that Qwest has. Also, one thing that I think may be a mistake, is that Qwest is going away from the NewBridge 36120/36170 switch platform and is going to go with the Cascade (Ascend) 500/9000 switches instead. However most other carriers have the Ascend platform or are just going to it as well since it is supposed to be more reliable and easier to use. As far as I am concerned, the results are not in yet on whether it is or not.
