Sometimes I'm a bit slow. My wife tells me this regularly.

David Faber on CNBC Squawkbox explained the whole thing. GSTRF is going down because Iridium 2 satellites failed. Faber did point out that the two systems are completely different, so one cannot logically assume that troubles with one imply troubles with the other, but as we know most of the street does not know or care about the difference.

More and more it appears that it was a very good idea to put the really complicated stuff on the ground.

Also, with Hyundai dropping out, who is going to pick up the slack? This is more troubling to me than the abovementioned incompetence by association issue, because it could mean that the ground stations may not be operational when the satellites are, not to mention little things like marketing and handset availability and local service provider agreements. Even if a suitable replacement for Hyundai has already been found, can they dot the "i's" fast enough to start service on the earlier schedule?

I'd like to end with something funny, but since GSTRF, LOR, LU and QCOM (note nifty alphabetical order) are all down this morning, I'm not in a very good mood. Could be worse, though. I could have Iridium stock, which is currently down more than $7 this morning.
