UN Relief Coordinator for Iraq Halliday to Leave Post, AP Says

New York, July 22 (Bloomberg) -- The UN's humanitarian-
relief coordinator for Iraq, Denis J. Halliday, is resigning his
position effective in September, the Associated Press reported.
Halliday, who handles the distribution network of the UN oil-for-
food program, had widely criticized UN sanctions against the
Middle East country and urged more humanitarian aid. Halliday,
who took over the post last September, said in a statement that
he was leaving for personal reasons, although his spokesman said
the reasons most likely include dissatisfaction with the relief
effort, AP said.

Last month, Halliday warned that falling oil prices and
delays in approving parts and equipment for Iraq's oil production
are cause for concern, the full impact of which probably won't be
seen for several months.
