I spoke with SBC and this LU contract was for 5ESS for voice only for right now, but they are also very interested in the data capabilities for the 5ESS(ADSL). The street talks about internet real estate well this contract is infrastructure RE for WSTL.

dug and all. lucent has a dslam but i don't think it handles cap and dmt. until the chips are ready and that is a good question (txn says 1st half of 1999 somewhat vague) if i were a rboc i would plan for any eventuality and cover all the bases. a sucessful bel rollout with wstl cap initially and the cable modem perceived threat could be enough pressure on the other bells to do what bel and bt are doing - use what works now and worry about dmt when it finally does arrive. with wstl having a foot in the door already. i remember going back a while ago during some amtx wstl debate the key points were amtx had the intellectual property and wstl had the good working relationships with the bells and a quality product reputation. assuming this was true and continues to be true( and factoring in fails to deliver on promises by others) i agree with the dr. i continue to add to my position and am confident. maybe today's call might light the fuse. good luck to everyone.
