Q. What does it take to be a Microsoft Certified Solution Provider?

Member Level Requirements

To participate in the MCSP program, Members must meet the requirements listed below at the time of enrollment or renewal; Microsoft provides no grace period to comply with these requirements.

Note: There are additional requirements based on local business needs in each region worldwide. Nomination into the MCSP Partner level is at the sole discretion of Microsoft.

An MCSP Member must:

Have at least (2) two exclusive Microsoft Certified Professionals who can be a:
Microsoft Certified Product Specialist
Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT)
Microsoft Solution Developer (MCSD)
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
Note: To meet this requirement at least two individuals who are Microsoft Certified Professionals must be on staff exclusively at a single MCSP site.

Derive at least 15 percent of its revenues from technical service provided to third parties or; derive at least 50 percent of its revenue from the sale and support of packaged line-of-business applications developed for Microsoft BackOffice.
Agree to the MCSP Agreement terms and conditions

Submit periodic sales/service reporting upon Microsoft's request

Meet certain administrative requirements:
Electronic mail, Internet connection, and fax. Every MCSP needs to be in a position to communicate via electronic mail and fax with Microsoft and to connect to the Internet, if available in its country. This will ensure timely and efficient dissemination of information and facilitate general communication.

Reporting Certified Professionals. Each MCSP site must maintain a minimum of (2) two exclusive Microsoft Certified Professionals. As part of MCSP enrollment, MCSPs are asked to identify all Microsoft Certified Professionals within the MCSP organization. We understand the confidential nature of this information and will keep all MCP reporting in strict confidence.

Update address and site profile information. Members must update their site profiles to include change of address information and other important information. By updating your business profile information regularly you ensure that appropriate leads and referrals are provided to your organization.

Pay the MCSP Membership Fee

(The fee for the MCSP '98 program is US$1395)

No, I think it was a carefully orchestrated move to make it look like that and draw the attention of momentum traders. Then the folks who came up with the idea can dump more of their stock at higher prices.
