I wonder how Intel's latest Xeon news will affect Gateway in the next quarter. Two of Gateway's high mark-up new products (ALR 9200 and 9400 Enterprise Servers) will likely be delayed due to new Xeon bug problems.

Fred, if we were to be discussing gateway on merits .vs. dell
as a box-maker stock it is perplexing that it be at the price it is
(well, was). The latest marketing ploy is generally regarded as
the explanation, lease (don't buy) your computer and wrap up the
internet access into the monthly fee.
As for stock comparisons, dell probably wins at $80/share .vs. $40/share GTW but at higher levels they are both crazy. Dell has share buyback and it consistently just wants to maintain cash flow,
Gateway is more adventurous I believe, with ambitions probably beyond means (and too late) but we'll see. Being the ISP is a demonstrated money-losing flop, being a neighborhood computer store/ repairman is another demonstrated flop. In that they spend money trying to bring this stuff up and are detracted from just selling boxes, I think it is overall negative but it is generating the positive feelings evident in the recent price run.
