FWIW- I think Bezos decision not to split the stock was the closest thing to saying, "our company is great but the stock is overvalued". He knew that the street was expecting it, especially after how XCIT, LCOS, MSPG and YHOO have reacted. If he thought the stock price "needed" to go up, he certainly would've split it.

Best Wishes,

Timoteo

>> Do you speculate that Amazon.com will one day compete with Compaq, Dell, GateWay, Onsale, Egghead and others? If so, you are completely misinformed on Amazon's capabilities, the realities of internet and general merchandizing and their intent to build the business responsibly. <<

Amazon will never compete in specialized areas such as computers so Compaq and Dell are assured in their market positions. Software sales and other types of media sales require little customer service. These are goods that are shipped in and shipped out to consumers. Post-sale support on software is handled by the publisher via (800) numbers, e-mail and web sites. The same goes for goods such as video games, video discs, etc. What are the extra capabilities needed to enter or handle this type of retail sale? None.

>> To wildly inflate expectations so you can make a personal killing, not caring what the company really plans to accomplish? Is that what you want? Well you've already got that and more. <<

I leave the task of moving markets to Greenspan. All stock talk on SI or Yahoo is speculation. People opine on why they believe Stock A will tank or why Stock B will rise. I've read many a bearish sentiment on this BB, it was lop-sided but I accepted those opinions and considered them. I believe that Amazon will become a major presence in on-line commerce in the next couple of years. You obviously disagree with my view of where Amazon is headed and I can live with that.
