>> did Bezos sound like someone who agrees with you and was going to expand beyond videos, music and books? Executive bandwith limitations? <<

Bezos was decidedly downbeat. It was almost as if he didn't want the stock price to get ahead of itself <G>. However, the management at AMZN are a savvy group and executive bandwidth can always be increased by adding the right people. I consider Amazon to be a growing business concern and I assume Bezos wants Amazon to succeed. There is no such thing as executive bandwidth limitations when there are pools of talented people out there. I considered that statement from Bezos puzzling but perhaps he was being modest.

>> European market (in which amzn just made a huge investment)
is 3-4 years behind US in internet use. Uh, ever hear of bertelesman, bks, and bgp? 3-4 years is a lot of time to give deep pocketed experienced if slower moving companies to catch up and crush the little guy. <<

Yes, European adoptance of internet use is slow but I see it as more of an opportunity rather than a barrier. Amazon is obviously spending large sums to get their name out there via traditional media as well as popular web sites. Amazon also has a catchy name that is easy to type in between www and com. The other traditional booksellers are obviously a threat but if anything, Amazon has caught their attention and they could be playing catch-up for a long time.

>> And ifhte majority of people in the US and Europe have yet to go online let alone shop let alone hear of, browse or buy at amzn, what % of the future market does amzn have this brand name with? <<

Thats why Amazon advertises on television and radio. When I first got connected to the internet, the first couple of sites that I checked out were Amazon and the Playboy site. I had heard a lot about Amazon from print media and from word of mouth. The Playboy site was one of the most visited sites back then so I had to check it out and join the lemmings. Amazon's exposure is more widespread now so I would have to assume that Amazon is a buzzword among the masses as well as the net savvy. Everyone on the internet has heard about Amazon and perhaps Yahoo. When new inductees into the on-line world come aboard, I am sure that those two prominent net names will pop up somewhere in their travels on the web.
