I agree with you that copper will cause equipment buys before 300mm does. I don't see 300mm doing much until 2001 at the earliest.

Intel has said little to nothing publicly about their copper plans, but then Intel says little or nothing about anything they're doing. Late 1999 (for the new chips) is far enough out that I'd say it's probably pretty likely that copper will be used. No one wants to be the last to switch, especially in the MPU world.
