Thanks Justa. Ugh, the orders look sickly. I hope most of the remaining backlog is DUV. Highlights of the salient points.

Orders were received from customers for 31 systems in the first half of 1998 compared to 136 units in the same period of 1997, resulting in a backlog of 91 units as at June 30, 1998 compared to 158 units as at December 31, 1997. The value of the backlog amounted to NLG 1.0 billion as at June 30, 1998 compared to NLG 1.6 billion as at December 31, 1997.

The number of employees has increased from 2,019 to 2,333 since January 1998.

Commenting on the results, Willem Maris (ASML's CEO) said: ''I am very pleased that ASML achieved growth in revenues as well as in net results, despite the softness of the semiconductor market and the economic environment in Asia. What we see is that demand for DUV photolithography equipment, the enabling factor for 0.25-micron technology necessary for the next generation of circuits, is still firm while demand for new capacity for the existing generations is clearly slowing down.

If Cymer can manage relatively flat revenues in this environment, then they're something very special...
