Paper, the thing is it does not matter whose platform you use,HLIT's MetoDWDM is interoperable with all silicon and physical layer chips in the cable industry. TCI has pledged they will spend at least 500 million by the time of the merger, they spent only 5 million this quarter. They have two quarters to either get their act in gear or fail to perform once again.
Well HLIT has had good and bad fortune, good that they had strong sales when TCI cancelled contracts in 1996,bad this year when Asia collapsed. But then again, now they are picking up domestic sales, and European sales.
I wonder how much effect the turmoil in the UK cable markets had on buying there. There have been mergers and acquisitions, and change in service areas. Three clients reside there, and I bet they delayed contracts this quarter also.
The cable markets are in turmoil around the world, they have the opportunity to dominate broadband access in the next millenium if they can get their act together.
Well HLIT has at least 5 new contracts in the last few months, one to TCI for 14 cities,100 communities, one small one with COX for Palos Verdes, one with NECSY for satellite systems in Scandinavia, one with Hungarian Telecom for wireless cable, one with the largest Israeli
cable company. They have focused now on sales, and have the sales staff of GIC working for them through the head of sales and North American sales. Small companies sometimes struggle as they grow, and I like to watch the struggle. They now have over 300 employees, two years ago only 100 employees. If they maintained the same eployees base they would still be profitable, and not growing.
Hey well I think AOL,YHOO et all are all worth only 10% of what they are selling for based on today's revenues. We do not base things on today, but look toward tommorrow.
They had to ramp up new production, and new products, lets translate those into sales and earnings.

Company Press Release
Israel's Largest Cable TV Operator to Use Harmonic Lightwaves' Digital Headend in Network Upgrade
Golden Channels to Offer Advanced Digital Video and Data Services Using Harmonic's TRANsend Digital Headend
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 22, 1998-- Harmonic Lightwaves, Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT - news) today announced that Golden Channels and Co., Israel's largest cable television operator, has chosen Harmonic's TRANsend(tm) digital headend to deliver digitally-based video and data services to its 420,000 subscribers throughout Israel.

Golden Channels is currently upgrading its nationwide network as part of its ambitious goal to provide subscribers with an array of innovative interactive services. Initially the upgrade will allow the delivery of more channels with higher-quality pictures, with high-speed Internet access, Near-Video On Demand (NVOD), Electronic Program Guides (EPG), home shopping, home banking and other advanced services to follow shortly.

''Our goal is to develop the most advanced and capable cable television network in the world so we can provide our subscribers with the broadest selection of interactive video and data services delivered with the highest possible quality and reliability. Given our goal, employing the industry's best digital headend is a must,'' said Moshe Ronen, president of Golden Channels. ''After a rigorous competition, Harmonic's TRANsend system was chosen for its overall superior performance, cost effectiveness, support for the DVB (Digital Video Broadcast) standard and its compact modular design -- it will occupy a fraction of the space required by alternative systems. TRANsend was also superior on a price-performance basis.''

Golden Channels currently plans to equip all of its headends with TRANsend systems, with operation scheduled for the first quarter of 1999. In addition to supplying the headend components, Harmonic is serving as Golden Channels' systems integrator, responsible for overall project management. This responsibility includes integrating third party products -- such as the conditional access system -- with TRANsend.

Golden Channels' extensive use of redundant encoders, multiplexers, power supplies and QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) modulators in the TRANsend headend should greatly increase the network's reliability. A key component of this advanced system is Harmonic's NETWatch(tm) Element Management System, which is designed to automatically switch from the primary encoders and multiplexers to the redundant cards when it detects the failure of a primary card. The encoder and multiplexer cards are also ''hot swappable,'' allowing their replacement without interrupting service. These features will help ensure that Golden Channels provides uninterrupted service.

''Golden Channels intends its digital system to be truly state-of-the-art, and represents the strategic direction of many of Harmonic's international customers,'' said Kirk Flatow, Harmonic's vice president of international sales. ''Their selection of Harmonic's TRANsend headend is a validation of our digital strategy. We're looking forward to helping Golden Channels build what could very possibly be one of the world's most advanced cable television networks.''
Here is another fantastic endorsement of HLIT's engineering, we have a fantastic endorsement from the US's best cable company in COX,and Israel's finest. I think UK sales must have fallen badly,if we can maintain the share price above 14,it will be a higher low,and if we can push past 19 a higher high.
