Samsung Electronics Shuts DRAM Lines for a Week
July 23, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. told Nikkei Microdevices that it shut its dynamic random access memory (DRAM) production lines at its main plants for a week from July 19 through July 25 to help alleviate the global glut of memory chips.
All the memory microchip production lines at its Kiheung plant were halted. Most non-memory microchip production lines at the Kiheung plant and a memory microchip assembly line for leading-edge DRAMs at the Onyang plant have stopped operating for the same period.

This is the company's second production curtailment following the stoppage on June 14 through June 20.

Samsung Electronics will continue similar production curtailments once a month until the DRAM market has recovered, a company official said.
