One of the secrets of SAP's success is that SAP concentrates on the products and keeps consultancy by SAP employees to a minimum, thus allowing many others also to earn money off of the SAP products.

This is not entirely correct. SAP has quite a large number of consultants and they are involved on many projects. What they have done that is very smart is to make sure that the total number of SAP employed consultants is never enough to become a threatening number to its partners and, therefore, affect the partners' willingness to invest in expansion.

Also, they have partnered with a greater number of training facilities to provide SAP logo training. Several years ago, SAP was virtually the only place to get certified training. Smart, Smart Smart!!
