All-In-Wonder AGP 2X / QuakeII full-screen test results on PII/266: 22FPS at 640x480x65K colors; 28FPS at 512x384x65K colors. And these results are with Outlook open, two Explorer 4 windows open, and the ATI TV tuner running in background! Check your email and stock prices, watch CNBC, play some Quake, then back for more quotes :^)

The textures and colors look like the Voodoo snapshots at idsoftware. Totally killer! But why use a PII/266 for the tests when Craig has an overclocked PII/300? Summertime. As soon as the CPU temp hit 38C, it would lock up. So much for overclocking PIIs.

On the bad side, the Stealth 3D 2000 Pro and K6-3D/300 are putting out a measly 14 FPS at 320x240x256 colors. Diamond says the card is GL-compatible but the AMD GL driver won't run. The AMD "software" driver does nothing but cause the HD to work overtime (wierd). Am very disappointed.

Craig,

Wintel must be getting a little nervous about the momentum that Linux and Alpha are making. Oracle, Informix, and Netscape have all announced Linux support in the last few days. If you combine the stability (and low cost) of Linux, the speed of Alpha, with support from enterprise application vendors, you have a combination that will seriously threaten Wintel's plans for Xeon + NT 5.0. Does anyone know if there is a 64 bit version of Linux for Alpha?
