A 23 year old programmer in the Silicon Valley recently stated on this thread that he expects to earn ~$52,000, so it's reasonable to assume the national average is the $38,000 quoted in the survey.

You could also ask any engineer in the business and he'll tell you that it's the going rate. You need to get a grip on reality.

You could assume that the $38,000 refers to a B.S., $53,000 for an M.S., and $70,000 for a Ph.D. However, the survey states nothing of the sort. Either way, the difference is accounted for by experience, whether it's attained in school or in the field.
