I got the power!!!!!

Still no tv and cable/internet access through my cable company!

My power company had estimated that power would come on Thursday 6pm, came on 5.45pm. My hats off to these guys.

Looks like my house and my neighbors' homes (left and right) were the only homes and yards totally unaffected by the storm! Have not seen so many trees uprooted before...

Market is loosing steam fast and it's only 10.30. Getting ready for some bargain hunting...but I 'll wait probably for the last half hour of trading.

George

As far as Y2k problem, IMHO is too overrated. Companies have been working on it for some time, they sure have been warned about it for quite some time. What I am really concerned about is what the IRS will do...there is no way these guys could deal with this problem, their computer systems date back to the 60s. So when you hear about junking the code etc...2000 year problem may be behind it all.

As I was responding to this post..... the electricity went off.... is that an omen ???

Anyway, what I was typing was this:

I have an attorney friend of mine that he is a "Risk Management Officer" for a Risk Management consulting firm (for attorneys, much like a true Devil's Advocate), that tells me that the IRS Reform bill was a no-choice type of thing, as the IRS computers, at the current pace, will be Y2K compliant by the year 2008....

So it was a matter of "either you change the code, or Y2K will eliminate it for you...."

He also indicates to me that the Power "grids" will be all important, as such "grids" distribute power to several regions..... Further, he told me that he is not flying any time around Jan 1, 2000.....

As I called the local power company, (due to my power outage), I asked them about their computers being Y2K compliant.

Their answer was, yes we are and have tested our computers, the problem is that the grids we depend on, we have no idea if they are or not.....

If you can, read the Wired magazine (August 98 issue), article on Y2K.
