Don

The theory is that once Tick goes very -ve (below 1000) the market has already gone down sufficiently to a point where buyers step in (maybe even computer buy programs) and move the market up and the tick then moves up also.

This is specially used by daytraders and SOES traders who look for small moves to make their profit objectives.

I saw this happen a few minutes back when LU dropped quickly by 2 points from 98 to 96 and then promptly jumped up to 97 where it is now.

When the tick index is lower than -1000 and there is a candlestick bullish pattern forming at day end and if the difference between open and close of S&P 500 is less than 3 then we have a buy.

Usually there are 2 days when the tick index goes below -1000 indicating a near term bottom is forming.

Hey Don:

Tick ----

----->I am new at watching the tick, but I have heard that a strong downtick below 1000, at times, may be a buy signal to go long. For those who are more familiar with the TICK, please comment.

AS

an old time tick watcher,
I've found that if you shake powdered sulphur around your pants legs and in places that clothing is constricted ----- waist band, socks, underwear, etc, that ticks will leave you alone ........
also, you can mix the same powdered sulphur into your food and that way it gets into the bloodstream and will keep ticks from latching onto your body, for it seems they can determine upon walking on your skin that the ingestion of your sulphur laden blood would be fatal for them.......
Now, there is one distinct disadvantage to the ingestion of sulphur, as it makes the user SMELL ------- and by this I mean smell bad as in members of the opposite sex will have NOTHING to do with you because the body odor coming from you will be bbbaaaaaadddddd....

However, if by perchance you are asking about the TICK on the stock market ------

the BBx uses it in calculations and is weighted in the area of "important" -------
and , depending upon the daily market, 1000 is a valuable point to consider ........
If you have any more questions on either of the above applications of TICK ,
feel free to ask ----------

and on the off topic type of comment ---

SPX
1150 is a crucial support/resistance ---- floor/ceiling ---- point
currently trading at 1150.60

Donald,

I may be late in commenting, so others may have already said this,
but whenever the TICK is at -1000 or worst in a BULL market you
can usually interpret that as a washout. Hence in the last 4 years
this could be considered the end of the selloff. In a BEAR market
this is no guarantee of an impending bottom. These -1000 TICK
readings can last for days in a severe downtrend, with only weak
rallies before more severe selling pressure. It just depends on
the circumstances.

Tomorrow will be interesting. I am looking for a failed rally at
this point, or an massively unconfirmed rally to new highs in only
the majors. But then again I have been wrong may times this year
about the market rolling over.
