K C, Good piece, not that it will have any impact. These companies know what they are doing. Not about running their businesses, which are mostly air, but about running their stocks. If an expense makes your eps look bad, dump it. If a gain is one time, but it makes your number look good, include it. The investors are too dumb to notice and the accountants are too crooked to raise a fuss. The analysts are simply asleep at the wheel. Sad stuff, but I can't remember the last time I felt comfortable believing the headline of anyone's eps announcement. That makes me dig on honest companies, like Hewlett-Packard, because one never knows when some financial genius will convince them to "get with the program."
