I have spent a good bit of time reading Y2K threads on SI. I suggest you do a full text seach on SI for Gary North and follow the various Y2K links. Then you can make your own conclusions.

I have no interest in persuading you.

I just spoke to Dr. Kendall and received some more information regarding the corruption of information due to the Y2K problem. Dr. Kendall stressed that the greatest danger was to all computers engaged in collecting time sensitive data, such as those used by research institutions, financial institutions, food and beverage companies, drug companies and individuals who do personal banking by computer.

This would also include computers that did not store time sensitive material but were part of an interlinked network with computers that did.

Individual computers which store no time sensitive data may or may not have their data corrupted. There are a lot of unanswered questions about what will happen in such a case. No one seems to be quite sure, and few users are interested in making the experiment on their own computers. The computer may shut down without losing data until a fix is provided, it may continue to function in a scrambled manner or it may function relatively unscathed, depending on the particular nature of non-compliance.

Given the uncertainty, many individuals might choose a cheap fix rather than risk troublesome problems.
