>> vepoc, In the meantime, the covered calls approach might be good for those who understand it, but I think very active trading in and out as it jumps about $2 a time will whittle away the loss for most, and provide a good basis for a long position and an eventual return to $60+. Would be interested in hearing other analysis and other strategies for reducing the loss. <<

One of the approaches to take here is to make sure that you dont loose much more. Some of the funds hold a LOT of shares and if they percieve that the fundamentals have radically changed they will try to get out, Can you imagine what putnam getting out would do to the price? When one gets out there will be panic and each will try to be the first one out. Looks like next major support is 30. Wait for the bounce and buy puts and sell covered calls. This stocks not going anywhere till things become clearer in another 2 q's. I see it trading to 30 on bad days as those who cant take the heat slowely start to unload and take their losses and to 50 on speculations of averaging down or things are not as bad. I do not like this company based on how they treat their employees and management frankly sucks, but that does not mean seeing such a loss for others is any consolation.

There are a few other threads that deal with situation like this..
