Billy - whatever your personal opinion of Greenspan, he's in a tough spot. It is his job to be aware of the markets, since the capital markets are a substantial portion of this economy (and you and I should be pleased about that).

His comments are almost always as a response to questioning by some third party, and he HAS TO ANSWER WITH SOMETHING. Would you prefer he not tell the truth? Lie? Hedge? Any of the above would also have the market reacting even more savagely than it does right now.

It's his job to prevent us from returning to the inflation of the Nixon/Carter years; and he has a relatively limited arsenal with which to do so. Would you prefer price freezes again? 17% inflation?

Look, I've lost money every time the guy's opened his mouth this year, but I don't hold it against Greenspan; I hold it against marketeers who overreact, or use his comments as an excuse to move the markets.

Just try to be objective - what would you do in his position?

ER

Would you please stop it,I can't laugh any longer, please!

Billy,
Your nerves are they calm yet,'cos I don't want you biting my head of or anything for saying what I have to say below:-

Don't tell me you prefer some elected official as Fed Chairman whose thinking might be clouded and influenced by partisan compulsions and not by the interests of the country as opposed to someone who is free from such debilitating and obnoxious nuisances and who can think independently for the benefit of the economy and therefore the country without fear of reprisals from politicians [known as asses in some circles].

I have a feeling we all will thank Chairman Greenspan [sounds like a commie from China don't it? you know Chairman Mao,Chairman Greenspan, get it?] after all these noise has died down for helping to deflate the the market now and then so that we can go to newer heights.

BTW you are excused for calling him an 'asshole',I think if he were to call you something similar he would have just stopped with the ass and left the 'hole' alone, protocol you know.

Are you sure your nerves are calm now?? Just checking.<VBG>
