This discussion seems to be off point to say the least.
First of all they came in with some pretty nice earnings for this
early in the ball game.
Second,AMTD has played a smart game and has access to thousands
of internet eyeballs, thats the name of the game. As these accounts
grow to huge nrs. over the next few years, the opportunity to access
these accounts with other offerings , knowing that they are already
a group of well-healed customers with large buying capacity.

Ameritrade also owns Accutrade, a higher level brokerage and also
owns their own clearing company that generates revenue on every
sale.
Last but not least , they are a going concern making money on the
internet. Look at the market cap of other internet companies with
no earnings in sight. Also compare market cap with Etrade.
As to the funds, the reason they like a larger number of shares is
to increase the liquidity that is not present in a thin stock. A
mutual fund has to be able to move a position in and out without
disrupting the market....Gil
