CNET has run several stories over the past few days, the latest dealing with healthcare. news.com &#147&#133experts warn has the potential to destroy systems holding private medical records and payment systems and could impair medical devices used for diagnostic tests, patient monitoring, and life support systems.&#148 Another today was predicting deathcounts attributed to Y2K -- darn, I can't find the URL for that one right now. Got some others though: news.com &#147&#133Yourdon, a guru of the Y2K safe-haven movement, expects people to die of hypothermia and starvation and be killed in civil unrest as the computer bug causes industrial shutdowns, a stock market crash, and food riots.&#148 Some legal reform, news.com &#147&#133Such a bill would protect companies from having to pay out huge court awards for Year 2000 related problems.&#148 In short: The average Joe has a flurry of news stories coming his way that, if not FUD, are at least alarming. There's quite a bit to decipher, and in that respect it's hard to blame the little guy, imo.
