Gary, I received the Web Street check today -- the check they were supposed to MAIL today. I was happy to get the money, but I don't want to pay for their mistake and you can be sure I'll be charged interest on this check.

In regard to your quest, can recommend two brokers I really like. I have no stake in recommending them: get no kickback and have no connection other than as a customer.

Brown & Co has the cheapest margin rates I know of anywhere, very cheap commissions: no penalty for voice orders vs online orders, and also very cheap on options orders, not just stocks. Their real time quotes are very good in that BB are included but tics aren't. Their online service is great, and there's no waiting for phone orders, either. The phone is kicked to another branch if it isn't picked up right away. They are efficient and accurate. Info online is comprehensive and accurate. They are polite, and ACCURATE. They are honest and stand by what they say. They'd never promise a rebate and not see you get it.

Waterhouse is a little higher on margin rates and commissions, esp for options, but on the other hand, give marginability to marginable stocks over $4 and a fraction versus Brown & Co which requires $5 for marginable stocks. They are also efficient, accurate, polite and helpful and honest. Their online service is almost as good as Brown's. The main negative is that it logs you off, won't take orders far from last night's closing price (you have to do that voice), if their site is working there is a higher commission for placing orders voice than on line. They're really nice there, as they are at Brown & Co.

Waterhouse's real time quotes are bought from quote.com, where I buy my own real time quotes. There are drawbacks: no real time BB quotes and option quotes only reflect one exchange. Brown's real time quotes are a little better, but don't show the last few tics, while Waterhouse's do. Pros and cons.

I use both brokers and buy separate real time quotes anyway.

I'm a tough critic, so if they satisfy me I figure they will satisfy most people. I've used both for some years now. Hope this helps.

Linda

I have been a happy Webstreet user. Although the problems with their server being down, I believe their OTC BB trading is the best out there. Fastets execution and cheapest. They will let you trade 1 Million shares of a stock at .001 over the phone for just 15$ with execution within 6-10 seconds, (If its a market order of course.)
