They sold their 1/3 stake in their UMC joint venture earlier in the yer, before the Taiwan Semi stocks got hit. They made 3 fold their origincal investment, and the cash will keep them going for a while longer. The TNT will be twice as expensive as the S3D. It has 9 million transistors (more than the Pentium II) and has a much larger die size (0.35um line width). It has to be considerably better than the S3D to gain significant market share. The real threat comes from the 3Dfx Banshee. The Banshee has better OpenGL (Glide) performance, but probably not as versatile as the S3D in terms of video quality and TV out features. If the Banshee is too good, it will cannibalize sales from the voodoo 2.

According to the CC, cash went up this Q due to the reclassification of Faroudja as an investment, (and thus part of the cash figure) instead of "other assets." This reclassification accounted for about $6 million in cash. The actual cash flow was "mostly flat" according to the CC.
