Called my local CompUSA here in Denver - (I wanted to pre-order 5 Imac's) Out of interest, I asked how many Imac's had been reserved by customers - they told me 4 - I asked how many Imac's the store had on order for the "Imac release"..... they told me 4. I did not order mine at this CompUSA - I want the order filled on Aug. 15th. Still looking.

Thinking about it - I am wondering if the CompUSA pre-order special & rebates is a means of commiting and "holding" the buyer - when Imac's will be in short supply. If so, this is very smart, aggressive selling - will probably frustrate early adopters but will insure sales - kind of reminds me of the PowerBook G3 release. Could this be a marketing philosophy?

I get the impression that Apple is doing many more things differently than just hardware/software.

Hugh
