For advance iMac orders you might want to check out Computertown--a long time Mac specialist and advocate based in NH. (I have no affiliation with the company whatsoever.) For preorders over the Web (computertown.com), they're offering a free 32 MB RAM upgrade, free shipping, and I believe there's no sales tax. My guess is they likely have a big order in for the machines.

Travis,

I think the education market should get the highest priority on the iMac. Can you imagine the reaction at Dartmouth and Yale if their students don't get their computers until half way through the first quarter? I'm seriously worried that this will happen. If this happens, schools will be dropping Apple from their recommended list faster than Ken Star's reputation.

Pravin.

I have a feeling compusa will be the best place to get an imac.

If you believe the numbers thrown around on the Mac web sites, CompUSA has preordered 300,000 iMacs for themselves. Since I think CompUSA has about 500 stores nationwide, a little math shows that's 600 iMacs per CompUSA! That alone makes me doubt the numbers somewhat. The more believable number is 100,000 preordered, which still comes in around 200 units per store, on average.
