Congrats to shorts. I must say the shorts look pretty good today. This is the first time ever I've seen an analyst get it right. I was out way before GTW earnings. The thing is you can't go out and shoot a stock before the report--because anything can happen when the report is actually released. You can have feelings one way or the other, but unless you have inside information--including inside company guidance that analysts get sometimes, there is no way to accurately predict earnings. I don't ever gamble on an earnings announcements. I gave my reasonings why I thought the quarter would be fine. I have to rely on technicals because of trouble fundamental analysis gets one into. I don't think based on the numbers the company released to the public that anybody could have accurately predicted this. Analyst guidance is a different story. One may think you can predict this earnings shortfall based on looking at charts of past revenues and margins etc., but I did that and there is no clear trend. Every quarter is pure gambling. Doesn't mean I can't short GTW now however!
