Mudcat, I believe that LGND was talking with several companies about a diabetes deal, and the WLA negotiations had become fairly advanced. I had heard that WLA did not want to give significant up front payments, and I see no mention of up front funds in the AGN press release.
I had speculated on JNJ before it became clear that the LGND diabetes deal would keep AGN at arms length.
The discussions with WLA happened last summer. The post that you referenced was well after LGND switch to another company (which of course was LLY).
