A report in the July 7-13 edition of Business in Vancouver says the B.C.
Liquor Distribution Board has banned an advertisement by
Kelowna-based microbrewery Tree Brewing. Amy Tyler Mair writes that
the ad, "Finding the G spot", was pulled after it ran only once in
Vancouver's Georgia Straight weekly. Tree's offending ad, which does
not feature its logo, offers racy copy about lovemaking, and the patience
required to perform properly. "Just the sort of patience, we might add,
that's required to locate a truly rare and precious beer like Tree Amber
Ale", the ad states. Aromatic candles and Barry White records also help,
it says. The campaign was produced by Palmer Jarvis DDB copywriter
Marc Stoiber, creator of the memorable "Humongous Bank" campaign
for Richmond Savings. Tree was floated on the Vancouver Stock
Exchange in a $1.6-million initial public offering at $1 on June 18. A
spokesman for the Western Brewers' Association says the liquor board
rules on the matter are vague and subjective.
