Hello Christine,

For example, there were many, many crucified saviors just before Jesus. Many of them were born on December 25, because that date happens to be just after the shortest days of the year, and represents the rebirth of the sun. Most of these guys were sun gods. In fact, the light around Jesus' head is sometimes thought to be a remnant of worship of the sun.

It's easy to say something like this, but its curious that there aren't a bunch of crucified savior religions running around the world now adays. Jesus probably wasn't born on December 25. The Christians decided to put a holiday there to get rid of a pagan holiday that probably coincided with what you discuss above. Crucifiction hadn't been going on for centuries before Jesus' time. I'm pretty sure it's accepted to have begun somewhere in the couple hundred years before Jesus.

Going back to the many crucified saviors, I ask again why there aren't religions devoted to them? A Jew named Ben Kosiba lived 100 years after Jesus and was proclaimed the Messiah by the Jewish rabbi of the day. Ceaser and other Roman emperors forced subjects to worship them as gods. There are no religions for these guys. You probably haven't even heard of the first one. Why would Jesus have begun a religion while the rest of the gods/saviors have never been heard from again?
