They would have to design an application that fits on an expansion module or card that is added to the advanced analog box. Part of the reason they may not be continuing to develop this is that Prevue requires so much memory in the advanced analogs that other applications have no room on the expansion module.

techguy- it may interest you to know that at the recent cable show, source was doing a demo of internet type access w/ the GI box. interestingly, when examined closely, it didn't look quite right, and we then discovered that the service was actually coming direct from a server and not going through the set top box at all... PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN. this would seem to shed some doubt on this product working as well as advertised. continue to believe this stock is extremely overvalued and highly unlikely as a takeout. let the games continue... good weekend all.

Advanced Analog Box CANNOT have the same number of channels as the digital. The Advanced only refers to the features it can provide, e.g. Prevue guide and other services like the Interactive Channel, Wink, WorldGate, etc. By nature of the analog cable system, each channel would take 6 Hhz to transmit and the analog cable only has less than 1 GHz of capacity. Do the math and you know what I am talking about.

It is only with digital compression, cable can offer anywhere near the 500 channels we are talking about. The trouble with analog box and cable system is that it does not have the capacity to transmit the type of DATA (not video) down the line so the internet like services can be offered, unless something like the SRCM (or WorldGate) technology is used that either use the video frame or the VBI data (very narrow bandwidth).
