AFAIK, it's part of the data stream. i.e. it's a part of the signal that your TV receives that it currently ignores, unless it's told otherwise.

Assuming, of course, that I understand your question.

BTW, the otherwise-ignored-band-o'data gets *way* bigger with DTV.
